What This Site Is For
ChromaticTuner.io is a focused browser tool for measuring concert pitch. It identifies the nearest note, reports the measured frequency, and shows the difference from equal-tempered pitch in cents. It is intended for musicians who need to check an instrument without installing an app or choosing an instrument-specific preset first.
What the Meter Reports
- The nearest chromatic note name and octave
- The measured fundamental frequency in hertz
- The cents difference between the measurement and the target note
- An adjustable A4 reference for ensembles that do not use 440 Hz
- A local microphone workflow that does not upload or save audio
Measurement Method and Limits
The tuner analyzes repeating patterns in a short microphone sample to estimate the fundamental frequency. It maps that frequency to 12-tone equal temperament using the A4 reference selected by the user. The browser performs that calculation locally.
A phone or laptop microphone is useful for everyday tuning, but it is not a laboratory instrument. Room noise, harmonics, vibrato, weak attacks, automatic microphone processing, and two notes played together can make the reading unstable. Use one sustained note in a quiet room and verify the result by ear or against an ensemble reference.

The site is deliberately limited to chromatic tuning, concert-pitch and transposition calculation, and practical tuning guidance.
